Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) shares the vision of our founder and creator, Alexandra "Alex" Scott—a cure for all children with cancer.
When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday, was four, she told her parents she wanted to set up a front-yard lemonade stand. Her plan: to give the money to doctors to help them find a cure. Her first "Alex's Lemonade Stand" raised an astonishing $2,000 in one day. While bravely fighting her own cancer, Alex continued to set up lemonade stands every year.
As news spread of the remarkable girl so dedicated to helping other sick children, people everywhere were inspired to start their own lemonade stands—donating the proceeds to her cause.

This year, VFFC welcomed 40 world-renowned chefs, entertained 1100 guests and raised funds for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for continued research into the causes and cures for pediatric cancer. Hosted at the Urban Outfitters world headquarters, the evening featured tastings prepared by each of the "Great Chefs," live and silent auctions, a fund-a-cure donation opportunity and an amazing open letter to Alex read by her mother, Liz Scott. The evening's big auction items included a dinner at Vetri Ristorante with Iron Chefs Michael Symon and Bobby Flay, a dinner for 20 at Iron Chef Jose Garces' JG Domestic, and a dinner for 8 prepared in home by Top Chef Winner Kevin Sbraga. These three items alone raised almost $80,000.
In 2010, the Great Chefs Event had a new home: Urban Outfitter's world headquarters at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. The new location allowed VFFC to welcome twice as many guests, experience the talent of twice as many chefs and raise twice as much money. Guests lined up to chat with and taste the fare of great chefs from around the world including Tom Colicchio, John Besh, Masaharu Morimoto, Barbara Lynch and more. Chef Mario Batali donated his time and talent for our live auction, providing a private dinner to be prepared himself at Marc Vetri's Osteria Restaurant.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2009, Osteria restaurant hosted the fourth annual Great Chefs Event to Benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. Over 500 guests had the chance to mingle with more than 20 world-renowned chefs and sample their food. A star studded chef roster included Bobby Flay, Michael Symon, Jose Garces, and Jonathan Benno.
The Great Chefs Event took to the streets this year, having outgrown the confines of Osteria. This year's event saw the addition of more great chefs hailing from across the country - all to support Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. Guests had the opportunity to meet world-class chefs and sample their food and wine, all prepared right in front of them.
